The Elkhart law firm Warrick & Boyn will continue its tradition of supporting the regional arts community.
The 37th annual Elkhart Juried Regional art exhibit gets under way this week at the Midwest Museum of American Art, 429 S. Main St. The all-media competition will feature works by artists from northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.
Warrick & Boyn began purchasing Elkhart Juried Regional art before 1985. Tim Shelly, a partner at the law firm, has organized Warrick & Boyn’s financial support of the exhibit since the mid-1990s.
“What this regional event is designed to do is support artists,” Shelly said. “There is a level of contribution commitment buyers make to this program, and in exchange for that, buyers get to choose an artwork that has been submitted to the contest.”
The law firm purchases artwork at the $900 level. And Warrick & Boyn is not alone in its efforts to promote the arts.
“You look at the roster of buyers on an annual basis, and there is a hard-core group of around 20 businesses or individuals who support at the $500 to $900 award level,” Shelly said. “The artist receives 100% of the purchase award. There is really nothing like this art exhibition in the immediate area. It’s an outstanding program.”
Warrick & Boyn has purchased 27 pieces of art from the show over the years. Many of the works are on display at the law office, located at 121 W. Franklin St. in downtown Elkhart.
“We believe the Midwest Museum is an important part of our downtown community,” said managing partner Randy Hesser. “It’s kind of our backdoor neighbor here at the office. Additionally, we are glad to be able to help support the artists and recognize the good works that they’re doing in this area.”
The Elkhart Juried Regional exhibition begins Oct. 9 and runs through Dec. 6 at the museum. For more information about the Midwest Museum of American Art, visit the website midwestmuseum.us.
