Full service law firm, Warrick & Boyn, located in downtown Elkhart, today announced the addition of Christopher Pottratz to their team of attorneys. Pottratz transitioned from a private practice in his hometown in order to join the Elkhart firm.
“We were pleased to welcome Christopher to the firm,” said Randall Hesser, Partner at Warrick and Boyn. “His energy and talents are great assets to the firm.”
Before making the decision to accept the job at Warrick and Boyn, Pottratz visited the Elkhart community a few times. “I saw that Elkhart had a growing downtown area and the economy has really picked up since 2008, so that was very intriguing to me,” Pottratz said. “Downtown Elkhart has lots of great restaurants and bars to hang out in and the people here are great. There are plenty of networking opportunities and young professionals. [Relocating here has] been a great experience.”
Pottratz received his Bachelor of Science from Purdue University followed by a Juris Doctorate at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. While in school, he focused on corporate law. “The professors were really great and they had a lot of real world experience practicing law as either a judge or a lawyer,” Pottratz said. “There were many opportunities to get out and use the things you learned in the classroom like internships or the school’s law clinic.”
After completing his law degree, Pottratz worked in private practice but later determined that working in a firm offered career advantages. “As a younger lawyer like me, it’s great having other people who are more experienced just down the hall who have dealt with various situations and issues,” Pottratz said. “Being a part of a larger organization like Warrick and Boyn has some tangible advantages over building a private practice.”
At Warrick and Boyn, attorneys are actively involved in service as an important part of their contribution to the community. In his free time, Pottratz volunteers as a lacrosse coach at Saint Thomas School in Elkhart. “Before I moved to Elkhart, I coached for three years,” he said. “I really enjoy working with kids and teaching them to work as a team. It’s a very rewarding experience.”
