Meet Partner Chris Pottratz

July 18, 2024

Why did you choose to live in Michiana?

The primary reason that I chose to live in Michiana is that I got a job at Warrick & Boyn, and it was the kind of job that I was looking for. Secondarily, I liked that it is not a huge city, but it is close enough to big cities like Chicago and Indianapolis that I can easily travel to a concert or sporting event.

What do you love about the Michiana region now?

From a career perspective, my favorite trait of Michiana, and Elkhart specifically, is access to influence. As a brand new lawyer in Elkhart, it was relatively easy for me to meet and develop relationships with the most influential people in the business, government, and non-profit sectors. In a larger city, it is easy to feel like you have no connection with people of influence. Here, my relationships allow me to make a real difference in the community. On the personal side, I have learned that Michiana has wonderful dining and entertainment options that are comparable to any city in the country, which is part of the reason that it is consistently ranked as one of the best emerging real estate markets in the U.S. The great amenities and proximity to larger cities, combined with the low cost of living make Michiana a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Why is Warrick & Boyn the right fit for you?

Warrick & Boyn is the right fit for me because it is a small firm where we all know each other and get along well. The office doors are always open for someone to come in and talk through an issue. Even though we are a small firm, we have a sophisticated business and government practice. Our clients rely on us to advise them on a wide range of complex legal and business issues. The variety of clients and issues makes work exciting and fun.

What inspired you toward a career as an attorney?

I developed an interest in law and politics in college. I graduated from college in December 2008, just as the economy was crashing. I did not have any luck finding a job that would lead to a career, so I went to law school. It turned out to be a great decision for me. I enjoy analyzing problems and helping people find the best solution

What are your interests and passions outside of the office?

Spending time with my wife and three young children is always my favorite activity. I also officiate college and high school lacrosse and serve as an officer on the board of directors of the Indiana Lacrosse Officials Association. Helping to grow the sport and encourage new officials is extremely rewarding.

What three words best describe the law firm of Warrick & Boyn?

Vibrant. Proactive. Service.

Nothing beats getting out and connecting with the businesses and organizations that make Michiana so special! Our attorneys, Chris Pottratz, Rachel Schnetzler, Jamie Richardson, and Ashli Hunsberger, had a fantastic time last week at the Nuway Construction 50th anniversary open house. Fifty years of building excellence in our community is certainly something to celebrate! And we're tremendously proud of our attorney, Ashli Hunsberger, who recently put her talents to work for a great cause! Ashli was part of a team of local professionals who organized the Women's Empowerment Brunch, benefiting Rose Garden Recovery Community, at the beautiful Hotel Elkhart, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. When business professionals step beyond the office to engage in our community, everyone benefits. At Warrick & Boyn, we are proud to invest our talents in causes that strengthen the fabric of Michiana, reflecting our firm's century-long commitment to both business excellence and community spirit across Michiana. ...
