Timothy S. Shelly, a partner with the northern Indiana law firm of Warrick & Boyn, recently completed his two-year term as chairman of the board of Indiana Landmarks—the country’s largest statewide historic preservation organization.
While chairing Indiana Landmarks, the organization conducted a number of significant projects. One of the first initiatives involving Shelly was the Indiana Landmarks Center in Indianapolis. “Tim was one of the first board members to support the project,” said Marsh Davis, President of Indiana Landmarks. “He walked in and said, ‘Let’s do this’ which takes a lot of courage. And we went from there.”
Visionary leadership defined Shelly’s tenure at the organization. “What drew [Tim] to our board is that he is an active and accomplished historic preservationist in his own community. What he has done with his own home and other historic properties throughout the state is exemplary.”
Shelly will continue to actively engage with the board of Indiana Landmarks. “I’m glad we will keep him on our board as an Immediate Past Chair for another two years. Tim is like a dream Board Chair; outstanding in every respect,” said Davis. “He not only serves our state but provides counsel to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.”
PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL INVESTMENT
Besides his leading Indiana Landmarks, Shelly along with his wife, Meg, have personally restored historic properties, including Elkhart’s Conn Mansion, and the boyhood home of Indiana artist, T.C. Steele, located in Waveland, Indiana. T.C. Steele’s boyhood home serves as an artist retreat and a support for art-based organizations such as the Indiana Plein Air Painters, art schools, museums, and public school art teachers.
Shelly’s leadership is noteworthy in other areas. He actively serves on the board of directors for Downtown Elkhart, Inc., Elkhart General Hospital, the Elkhart Urban Enterprise Association, as well as the board of advisors for the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
